在文昌东郊镇，自然生长着50多万株各类椰子树，约占海南全岛椰子树的一半左右，文昌可谓是名副其实的“椰子之乡”。经过40年两代科研人员的不懈努力位于文昌的中国热带农业科学院椰子研究所，用椰子所筛选培育出了适应海南气候的椰子新品种——“文椰系列”。

In Dongjiao Town of Wenchang city, more than 500,000 coconut trees of various types grow wildly, accounting for about half of the coconut trees in Hainan. Wenchang deserves the reputation of "hometown of coconuts" ". After 40 years of unremitting efforts of scientific researchers, the Coconut Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences in Wenchang selected and cultivated a new coconut cultivar adapted to the climate of Hainan- the "Wenye Series".

这就是我们那个文椰三号新品种，采摘非常方便，产量又多，一年一两百个。所以说一株树的价值都很高，一亩地上万元了。

This is our new cultivar - Wenye No. 3, whose fruits are easy to be picked. It has a large output - one or two hundred a year. So the value of a single tree is pretty high, an estimate of 10,000 Yuan per mu.

新品种的出现大大调动了农户种植的积极性，使椰子作为经济作物大面积种植成为可能，加速了我国椰子种植品种的更新换代和椰子产业的可持续发展。

The emergence of new varieties has greatly encouraged farmers to plant coconut trees, making it possible to grow this cash crop on a large scale, and accelerating the upgrading of coconut planting varieties and the sustainable development of the coconut industry.

海南的椰子大概滨海一带的椰子是传统的高种椰子产量很低。我们就选择一些品相比较好，价值比较高的品种，那么现在我们主要有三个品种，一个叫文椰二号 文椰三号 文椰四号。然后它稳产期产量很高一般都在150个左右，椰子水比较甜，椰子肉比较嫩，它非常适合旅游市场。

The coconut trees in Hainan’s coastal areas are traditional tall trees with very low yield. We choose some varieties with better quality and higher value. Now we mainly have three varieties, Wenye No. 2 Wenye No. 3 and Wenye No. 4. Their output during the stable production period is very high, usually around 150. The juice is sweeter and the flesh is tender, very suitable for introducing to the tourist market.

“文椰系列”是两代科研工作者毕生辛勤工作的结晶。现在，他们正在谋划利用来之不易的新品种，开发椰子的更大价值，将来自“椰子之乡”的小小椰子，做出更大成绩。过一个接一个的实验，他们不局限与把椰子开发成各式食品、化妆品，而是更倾力于将文昌椰子打造成一块金光闪闪的品牌。

"Wenye Series" is the culmination of the hard work of scientific researchers. Now, they are planning to expand the value of the hard-won new varieties of coconuts and make even greater achievements. With continuous efforts, they are not only working on various coconut foods and cosmetics processing, but also sparing no efforts to build the brand of Wenchang coconuts.

（一艘船正在投放人工鱼礁 A Ship is Busy Releasing Artificial Reefs）

在文昌冯家湾东部海域海面上，一艘大船正在进行繁忙的人工鱼礁的投放作业，这是文昌冯家湾海洋牧场建设项目需要投放的最后一批人工鱼礁。相信不久之后，这批鱼礁将像之前投放的鱼礁一样，快速成为各类海洋生物的家。

On the eastern sea area of Wenchang Fengjiawan Bay, a large ship is busy releasing artificial reefs. This is the last batch of artificial reefs needed to be put into the construction project of Wenchang Fengjiawan Ocean Ranch. In the near future, all kinds of marine life will soon make their home in this place just like in the previously released fish reefs.

其实这种鱼礁主要是为了养护渔业资源，2017年已经投放了95个。这种鱼礁投放下去，渔业资源的种类数量是对照区的1.5倍，还有它的渔业资源密度是对照区的1.8倍。

In fact, this kind of reef is mainly for conserving fishery resources, 95 have been launched in 2017. After laying this kind of reef the number of types of fishery resources is 1.5 times that of the control group, and its fishery resource density is 1.8 times that of the control group.

（鱼群在海洋牧场畅游 Fish Swimming in the Ocean Ranches）

海洋牧场的建设，让生活在文昌的人们，面对大海不再是无尽的索取，他们第一次成为了大海的养护人。通过努力，文昌冯家湾海洋牧场已完成投放人工鱼礁面积50公顷，投放礁体2.3万空方，形成的海洋牧场可产生增殖效果区域达到100公顷，增殖苗种数量可达270万尾以上。

The construction of ocean ranches has allowed people of Wenchang to transform from takers from the sea into givers to the sea. Through hard work, Wenchang Fengjiawan Marine Ranch has installed an artificial reef area of 50 hectares. Every 23,000 empty squares of reefs causes proliferation of over 2.7mln fishes in every 100 hectares of ocean ranch.

建县两千一百多年来，地瘠民贫早已成为往事，海洋为这座城市带来了灿烂的历史与未来。文昌土地上的椰子树依旧生机勃勃，坚韧勇敢的文昌先民们，凭借勇气与智慧，将目光望向大海与星汉，望向这座城市辉煌的明天。

It has been over two thousand one hundred years since the establishment of the county. Compared with the barren landscape of the past, the ocean has endowed this land with a brilliant history and a prospective future. Coconut trees are full of vitality. The brave ancestors of Wenchang, bearing courage and wisdom, looked far to the sea and the stars, and to the glorious future of this city.
