（文昌孔庙 Wenchang Confucius Temple）

位于文昌市文城镇的孔庙，是海南历史最悠久、保存最为完好的孔庙，始建于公元1040年，它见证了儒家文化在海南发展。这里的粉墙青瓦，不知见证过多少学子的寒窗苦读。

Nestled in Wencheng Town, Wenchang City, the Confucius Temple is the oldest and best-preserved Confucius Temple in Hainan. Built in 1040 AD it has witnessed the development of Confucius culture in Hainan. The white walls and blue tiles here have accompanied numerous students in their days chasing dreams in spite of hardships. 

孔庙并临之侧，是蔚文书院，创立于明代万历二十二年。作为海南历史上不得多见的“讲学式”书院，蔚文书院在对儒家文化在海南的传播发挥了重要作用。蔚文书院每周都会举办一场国学讲堂，这是文昌人的精神脉搏，让我们看到了文昌的文脉与文化之根。

Not far from the Confucius Temple is the Weiwenshuyuan Academy, founded in the 22nd year of the Wanli era in the Ming Dynasty. As a rare "lecture-giving" academy in the history of Hainan, the Weiwenshuyuan Academy played a crucial role in the spread of Confucius culture in Hainan. Weiwenshuyuan Academy holds a lecture on Chinese culture every week. This is the spirit of Wenchang people, which allows us to learn Wenchang's cultural heritage and roots.

文昌为什么叫文昌，文的意思是文化，昌的意思是昌盛，就是反映出文昌自古以来崇文重教的历史传统。蔚文书院走出了十多位进士，一百多位举人，为国家、为民族、为地区的文明建设作出了贡献。

Wenchang-Wen in Chinese means culture, Chang in Chinese means prosperity. It reflects Wenchang's historical tradition of advocating culture and education since ancient times. More than a dozen scholars and over 100 people have been recruited from the Weiwenshuyuan Academy, and they have contributed to improve the civilization atmosphere in this region and the whole country.

海南自古便是一个移民社会，移民在改变了海南人口的构成，更丰富了这里的文化。位于文昌会文镇的十八行村，是一座福建移民建成的代表村落，他们的祖先林沓率领族人，于明朝正统年间从福建莆田迁居至此。

Hainan has been an immigrant society since ancient times. Immigrants have changed the composition of Hainan's population and enriched the culture here. Shibahang Village, located in Huiwen Town, Wenchang, is a classic village of Fujian immigrants. Their ancestor Lin Ta led the tribe to move here from Putian, Fujian Province during the Zhengtong era in the Ming Dynasty.

这间房屋是我们十八行村保存最好，也是历史最久的古房屋古建筑，保留了400年以上。

This house is the best preserved in our Shibahang Village and also the oldest ancient house and ancient building, which has been preserved for more than 400 years.

在西下的暖阳的光影中，仿佛可以看到闯荡至此的先民们在新故乡里拼搏开拓的身影。海南是海上丝绸之路的重要支点，海上贸易的兴盛促使一部分海南人远去东南亚“住番”，其中久逾不归者成为华侨。时至今日，共有120多万文昌华人华侨遍布在世界50多个国家和地区。因为十八行村有半数人口侨居海外，90%的村民是侨眷，这里也被称为侨乡中的侨乡。

From the ray of the warm sun descending west, it seems that people can grasp the life fragments of ancestors struggling to build their new hometown. Hainan is a pivotal fulcrum of the Maritime Silk Road. The thriving maritime trade inspired some Hainanese to work in Southeast Asia, and certain of them lived  there permanently and became overseas Chinese. Today, there are more than 1.2 million Wenchang people residing in more than 50 countries and regions in the world. Given that half of the population of Shibahang Village live overseas, and 90% of the villagers are relatives of overseas Chinese, the village is known as "the hometown of overseas Chinese".

说起来每户都有华侨关系，每一户都有华侨关系，侨眷啊、兄弟啊。

Basically, every household has a relative who is an overseas Chinese, like siblings and other family members.

百年风雨过后，曾经闯荡而来的外乡人扎下了根，在这片热土上打拼。村前的石鼓、村畔的老树、家家户户的大门都会记得，那些在老屋中回荡的琅琅读书声，那些背井离乡闯荡天涯的铁汉子，那些老祖宗留下的耕读传家故事。

Hundreds of years have passed, the former outsiders have now taken root in this piece of hot land. The stone drums in front of the village, the old trees by the village, and the gates of every household will remember the sounds of reading in the old houses, the tough men who braved the world to provide for their family, and the historical stories of their ancestors’ struggling for a better life.
